Elevate Your Wedding Experience with Unique Entertainment Ideas.
Today, I had the pleasure of performing at Eaves Hall, which is a bit different from my usual gigs at weddings. This got me thinking about some unique ideas I've encountered over the years that you might want to incorporate into your wedding to make it unforgettable. After all, who doesn’t want their big day to be the talk of the town?
Why Stick to the Ordinary?
When I ask couples at wedding fairs about their entertainment plans, they often tell me they've got a DJ, a band, and evening entertainment all sorted out. Some even say, "We don't have kids at our wedding," as if entertainment is just for children. Let me tell you, adults love to be entertained too! So, let's dive into some ideas that can make your wedding day extraordinary.
Themed Events: Transform Your Day
One of my favourite ideas is a themed event. And by themed, I don't just mean matching colours and cake toppers. Imagine turning your entire day into an experience. You could theme either the whole day or just the evening event. When guests transition from the daytime room to the evening, they’re met with a completely transformed space.
There are numerous companies that allow you to hire props for various themes. Whether it's a medieval, circus, or festival theme, transforming your venue is easier than you think. Not only can you dress the room, but you can also bring in entertainers that fit the theme. For instance, a Hollywood theme could feature fake paparazzi, a red carpet, and even Oscars during your speeches. A medieval theme could include minstrels and jesters, while a circus theme could have jugglers and acrobats.
Mingling Entertainers: Keep the Fun Going
Another great idea is to have a mingling entertainer. These entertainers are perfect for keeping guests engaged during meet-and-greet sessions. For example, I often work as a magician, mingling with guests and providing entertainment while they wait for photos or dinner.
Other mingling entertainers could include caricaturists, silhouette artists, jugglers, and balloon artists. And don’t think balloon art is just for kids! Adults love it too, especially when they see the colourful creations. These entertainers add a splash of color and fun throughout the day.
Celebrity Lookalikes: Add a Touch of Stardom
Imagine the buzz when a celebrity lookalike shows up at your wedding. From Gordon Ramsay to David Beckham, having a lookalike can add a real star-studded feel to your day. I’ve even seen weddings with Del Boy and Rodney lookalikes, which always bring a smile to everyone's faces.
I personally work as a Gareth lookalike from 'The Office,' alongside a David Brent lookalike. We add a comedic twist to weddings, whether it's during speeches or just mingling with guests. It’s always a hit and makes for some unforgettable photos.
Surprise Sing-Along Acts: A Musical Twist
One of the most delightful surprises I've seen at weddings is the sing-along act. Imagine comedy waiters who suddenly break into song, serenading guests with popular tunes. One of my favorite acts is Singing Waiters, who always manage to surprise and entertain.
Another option could be a Rat Pack singer making a surprise appearance towards the end of dinner. These acts get everyone singing along, creating a joyful and memorable atmosphere.
Unique Bands: Break the Mold
Instead of a traditional cover band, why not opt for something different? At our wedding, we had a street band called The Cash Cows, who performed covers in their unique style. Another fantastic option is the Iron Boot Scrapers, an Edwardian rock band.
If you’re looking for a tribute band, consider someone like Blobby Williams (not to be confused with Robbie Williams). These unique acts add a fresh twist to the evening entertainment.
Interactive Fun: Engage Your Guests
Why not add some interactive fun to your wedding? Consider setting up side stalls like coconut shies or hook-a-duck, especially if you have a fairground theme. These activities provide guests with something fun to do and always result in lots of laughter.
Alternatively, you could have a fun casino with fake chips or a Scalextric table. Modern Scalextric setups are computer-controlled and can be a big hit with guests of all ages.
Silent Disco: Dance the Night Away
A personal favorite of mine is the silent disco. Guests wear headphones and can choose from multiple channels, enjoying a personalised dance experience. This is perfect for venues with sound restrictions, allowing the party to continue without disturbing the neighbours.
Bonus Tip: Leverage Your Suppliers
For more inspiration, build a rapport with your suppliers. They've likely been to hundreds, if not thousands, of weddings and can offer valuable insights into what works and what doesn't. Don't hesitate to ask them for recommendations to give your wedding that extra special touch.
